What is Modfortis

Modfortis stands for Modern Fortress (Mod, short for modern and Fortis Latin for fortress). We sell our own original designs as well as other vintage and contemporary pieces that fit the modernist aesthetic. Modfortis is also an online inspirational gallery featuring modernist pieces from past and present. Browse through our gallery of past items and if you get inspired visit our shop to see what’s available. We sell small goods on etsy and our bigger items are sold locally in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shopping

Our original design inventory is new and crafted by hand. We strive to use scrap wood and other materials to reduce the impact on the world. Minor imperfections in the wood are to be expected but we do select the best pieces to be sold. Any item painted by hand is expected to have slight variation from the one pictured.

Our inventory is vintage and has been around for 40+ years, thus some wear should be expected. Most items have small nicks or scratches but this is expected from a vintage item. Usually, these details do not detract from its appearance. Our grading is as follows:

Excellent: Almost perfect might have one or two minor flaws. Overall appearance is not affected.

Good: Overall surface marks that do not detract from it’s overall appearance but the piece looks good and is fully functional.

Average: Visible marks, overall great functional piece with obvious signs of age often called patina. A piece for those who don’t mind and appreciate a little wear.

We do not offer returns, we do strive to be honest with our photos and descriptions of each piece. We encourage you to contact us for more details or to come and take a look at the piece in person with no obligation.

Appointments

We encourage you to come and take a look at our large items in person and free of obligation. We love meeting new people who are interested in the same things we are. Our hours vary but we will try to accommodate to your schedule.

Delivery

For large items such as furniture we only deliver within the San Francisco Bay area. Delivery fees are usually $40 depending on the area and that’s non-refundable. We encourage you to come and look at the piece in person before committing to buy.
